I.
Background
The
Ministers’ Forum on Infrastructure Development in the Asia Pacific Region was
initiated by the Ministry of Construction of Japan
in October of 1995, aiming at providing the Ministers and senior officials with
a unique international platform to discuss development strategies and policies,
exchange views and share experiences on addressing problems and challenges in
the field of infrastructure development. The member countries and districts
include Australia, Brunei
Darussalam, Canada,
Chile, China, Colombia, Hong
Kong, Indonesia,
Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New
Zealand, Papua New
Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, United
States of America, Thailand and Vietnam.
Up
to now, this high-level forum has been successfully held respectively in
Chile (1997), Hong Kong
(1999), Indonesia (2002) and
Malaysia (2005). The 6th
Forum will be convened in Beijing, China on 28 to 29 August, 2007.
II.
Objectives for the 6th Forum
●To
share the experiences on investment and financing system reform of
infrastructure services in respective countries;
●
To share the experiences on sustainable use of water, focusing
on the policies, technologies and management on the safety guarantee system of
drinking water, the water pollution control and the utilization of
non-traditional water resources;
●
To enhance the technical and economic cooperation on the
infrastructure services and water sector throughout the region;
●
To promote the infrastructure development and the improvement
of water environment in the Asia Pacific Region

VI.
Participants
The
6th Forum is expected to welcome Ministers in charge of
infrastructure development and their senior officials in the Asia Pacific
Region, as well as senior officials and experts from relevant international
organizations.
VII.
Program Arrangement
The
6th Forum will be composed of senior official’s meeting and
Ministers’ roundtable meeting. The senior official’s meeting is to elect the
members of bureau of the 6th Forum, present the country papers and
discuss the Ministers’ Declaration. The Ministers’ roundtable meeting is to
invite the ministers or their representatives to make keynote speeches, adopt
the Ministers’ Declaration and decide the host for the next
Forum.
